my butt should be burning. pardon me for being crude. 'cause i'm sitting on a 10% report due very very soon, with a killer CA next monday. urgh. help!
anyway, trying to start my ecology report but kept feeling oh-so distracted, no thanks to myself and bubear, who is bad influence (Haha), keeps distracting me with wow, 'oh do you know my warrior is so lucky' *roll-eyes* hope he doesn't see this. haha! just kidding lah, i still love you ^_^
was looking around the net when i saw this pdf about kent ridge park's history as well as flora and fauna, very relevant to what i saw that day during practical. but hey, how come the plants look so much nicer in the pictures than what i saw. lol.
speaking of which. the practical last monday (see how long i took JUST to start the report? oh God, help me man.) was...in a word, traumatizing. probably 'cause i vastly underestimated the word 'ridge'.
we had to do vegetation analysis, which required us to take sample plots from the forest, in order to do our study. yes, we needed to ENTER the forest. I thought, no biggie. forest is just forest? but when the TA said 'we are going to enter here' and points to the area at the forest edge which doesn't even closely resemble an opening, i thought 'okay, fine, i was wearing jeans. no sweat.
when i stepped to the forest edge, i nearly fainted. usually when we say forest edge, means the border or the beginning of the forest. my goodness. the edge here literally meant edge! as in edge of a cliff, edge of a freaking steep slope downwards into the forest. and we HAD to go in. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. i took 1 step, felt the steepness and my knees went weak. Thank you God for helpful pract mates like Elaine, who literally had to take me by the hand downslope! Sigh. Cant get anymore embarrassing than this.
Measuring the parameters for the plot was alright, 'cause thankfully the quadrant i was in wasn't all that sloped and there were very little trees. Then came the hard part. Getting back up. I thought it wouldn't be that bad, since they said that if one were to miss footing and slip, can roll all the way down to spinelli at science canteen. not a bad idea actually. anyway, i tried to go back up on my own but failed terribly. the pract mate who was infront of me said she felt like a destroyer of the forest, treading on all the leaflitter and creating a huge muddy trail. i thought to myself, she won't be as massive a destroyer as me, who was grabbing desperately at any small tree i could find so as not to lose my balance. the last 3 metres up to the edge was horrible. i think the TA gave up, decided to give me a hand and pull me up. lol.
When i got safely back up to the open space, my first thought was if forest ecology required me to do field work like this, im going to kill myself.
maybe im just not fit for field work.
On another note though, I wanna go BlizzCon 2008! Actually, just get me that polar bear mount with cute baby murloc. Aurrrrrrrrruuuuggguglugglugglugluguaa! :P
