Was out with yc on saturday night when we talked about money matters and the issue of going dutch. And i went 'but why can't you pay for it?'. It was just a random remark coming from me, but it set him thinking hard. I knew he was thinking about something, because he had gotten all quiet but i couldn't read his mind. I pestered and he finally gave in and told me about it. I was appalled and somewhat disappointed by what he had to say. Tried to keep calm, but i couldn't. I can't disagree entirely with what he said, yet i didn't like the arguments put forth. See, if one looks at a typical male-female relationship, it's really more advantageous for a guy to remain single than to be in a relationship. Here's why:
1) Even before getting together, during courtship, the guy has to take the initiative to do all the chasing, buying gifts, impress the girl etc.
2) During dating, he is expected to pay for the meals, send the girl home, plan for dates & anniversaries etc.
3) When he gets married, he's expected to pay for the house, utilities bills etc.
4) Even when he's divorced, part of his wealth goes to his ex-wife, asalimony.
And thus because of this, it's more disadvantageous (economically, socially and emotionally) for the guy to be in a relationship, whilst it's more advantageous for the female to be married. But of course, there is also a scenario where the single female is most disadvantaged: being an unwed single mother. Economically burdened and possibly socially discriminated against. Even with the modern society striving to move towards equality of the sexes, these norms that exist which put the males in a disadvantageous position contradicts that very notion. Anyway, these arguments were put forth by yc, even though it was logically sound, if you take a sociological perspective, it was just depressing to hear. So now what? Got really upset after hearing that (like i said, can't help it). Even if it's a passing thought. Well, so i thought, guess i'll just have to work towards saving my own ass. He got upset and regretted telling me about what he thought about, for he knew i'd already react like that and that it was just pointless to bring it up cos it wouldn't change anything but just make both of us upset. Besides, equality of the sexes, despite how much we want to achieve that, is almost never going to exist. How do you explain the still existent and prominent discrimination against women at the workplace despite all efforts to 'rectify' it?
Then came sunday, was too exhausted from the thinking and crying the previous night, felt like shyt and so didn't go for church. yc came over after backup singing at church to have lunch together. he flipped sunday times' lifestyle. Gosh. Short of my jaw dropping, my eyes went O.O in astonishment. lol. The front page read 'Do S'pore women expect too much?'. (Click here to read about it) Dang. Upon flipping to the article, it says Women lazy or what? and Great expectations (refering to women's expectations on men). Articles has some interesting statistics from a survey done by SDS.
gah. sometimes i really feel like i'm merely wasting my time and energy away. =( probably due to how i spend/utilise my time. bleah. anyway...

And hor, i didn't know frozen prata so hard to fry/handle, until i saw ah bu fry it. dang. so difficult. i'd rather go downstairs order one plate. lol.
caught jumper today. give it 4.5 stars for action but ZERO stars for plot. lol~ horrendous storyline or rather, the lack of one! but oh well, judging from the trailer, i kinda was expecting a lame and lousy plot but i still wanted to see it for the action ;x so i dragged the boy along, to watch with me. and guess what was his comment when the credits started to appear. "HUH?! Where is the plot? This movie has no plot lah! WTH!" Interesting concept, underdeveloped story line. wonder what did the critics rate it? still have a list of shows i feel like catching. p.s. i love you and the eye. anybody caught juno yet? i wanna know the story!!! :( mm, sometimes really get quite sian by the movies nowadays. they just don't make them the way they used to. they just dun have the X factor or strong appeal anymore. or perhaps, i'm just hard to please.
Not as if i didn't mention that enough. lol~ But anyway. Love and I visited the national museum today, to see the Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre. For me, it was an enriching experience 'cos we went for one of the guided tours and we got lucky. Our guide's knowledge of Greek history and mythology was simply immense. We were supposed to join the 2.30 slot but then we were too early for the 2.30 guided tour so we joined the 2pm one instead. And woot. The guide gave a very good introduction and insights about all the masterpieces displayed. Without further ado.....

Birth of Erichthonius. Far left is Hephaestus, one of the ugliest gods and also the god of crafts. The goddess receiving the baby (Erichthonius) is Athena and the one handling the baby to her is Gaia. On far right is none other than the beautiful Aphrodite - goddess of love and beauty who is also Hephaestus's wife. (Zeus - king of the gods and Aphrodite's father. He was afraid that the people would wage war over the pursue of his daughter and so he hurriedly marry off his beautiful daughter to the ugliest god.)
Athena - goddess of strategic war. She's carrying a basket which has serpents in it as well as her baby (Erichthonius).

Vase (an original!) depicting the War of the Titans (the war between the Olympians, lead by Zeus and the Titans - the previous generations of greek gods, generation before the olympians). The tiny figure holding a bow is actually Eros (equivalent to what we know as Cupid except that Cupid is in Roman mythology.), and instead of shooting arrows of love, he's shooting arrows of war. He's fighting on the side of the olympians.
Now this is rather interesting. Because the war of the titans is essentially a gods vs gods clash but Zeus had gathered help from a half mortal (Hercules). (The artist depicted the olympians with crowns on their heads and the titans with animal skinned clothing and fighting the war by throwing rocks during the war. Also, the titans reign over the mortals BEFORE this war took place.) And Hercules happens to be wearing some sort of a crown on his head yet he's wearing some sort of animal skin on him but he's also using a weapon instead of throwing rocks. So technically speaking, he's fighting against the side that he 'belongs' to.

Departure of Eurydice, Orpheus' wife to the underworld. Story goes that Eurydice was being pursued by Aristaeus (son of Apollo) and she ran into snakes that bit her. She died and went to the underworld. Orpheus, grief-stricken over the death of his beloved wife, found a passageway to the underworld. And since he was awfully gifted in music (hence the harp) he played music to the gods of the underworld Hades and Persephone and moved them into letting him bring his wife back to earth, but on one condition: he was not to look back until both of them were out of the tunnel. Sad thing was, he did. And his wife was taken away back into the underworld forever. tragic, right? :(
Pan (as in Pan's Labyrinth, if any of you caught that movie some time back last year.) Notice the 2 horns on the head? Btw, it's pronounced Pah-an not pan as in frying pan. lol!

Wah lao. Took so long to blog this la! Cos i wiki-ed then got distracted while reading more about them. lol. Well, it seems that the greek sculptors really love to pay tribute to the human form. the degree of intricate details in the works is insane. lol. And from the stories i heard today, i conclude that the greek gods are really quite 乱乱来 aka 'anyhow'。 haha! probably had too much time on their hands, always feeling jealous about OTHER beautiful beings (be it mortals or other gods) OR going down to earth for their "adventures" and bringing their desires with them OR desiring other gods/mortal's women/wives etc. they just can't resist temptations huh. OH yeah. and also, homosexuality was actually the norm for them. in the sense that it was perfectly normal for a man to desire another man. like how zeus desired quite a number of young man (youths) during his escapades on earth and how he would gift them a pet (usually a bird) as a symbol of his affection and transition (for the youth) to adulthood. what else. oh yea. did i mention? I WANT TO GO EUROPE. lol~

was reading this site abt the latest dirt on edc. jeez! all the hoo-hah started way back in 30th jan and is still ongoing sia~ (note: u can find the latest "news" there. reliability of info? i dunno man, you decide.)
met love for lunch today at clementi central at abt 1plus. went to rent dvds. gah. i dunno why i like to self-sabotage. -_-" *grumbles* got test & reflection paper nxt week. am so going to die. anyway, ah bu wanted to watch edward scissorhands. silly boy. super old show already still want to watch. but he complained he nv finished watching it. i dun wan to watch cos it's an agonizing show. reminds me of the "trauma" i went thru after watching it was a kid. lol. but anyway they remade it, the quality of the show was fantastic (what am i saying, it's dvd!) but compared to when i watched it on tv as a kid (grainy, lousy, tv quality). love noticed that the bright colors used in the movie wasn't typical of tim burton's usual black-white style but well, if i was thinking if u compare it to charlie & the chocolate factory, it's almost the similar style already.
love skipped his 4-6pm lecture so that we could go earlier to the place he was supposed to bring me and surprise me with on v-day. lol. kept guessing where he wanted to bring me. i told him if he brought me to the hawker centre, im not going to speak to him for 1 week. hahahah! before we left my place for the "surprise", he asked me what i felt like eating. i immediately replied what came to mind - jap food. :x then he said okay let's go waraku. dotdot. =\ anyway i followed love blindly (hoho, sounds so weird - love is blind ;x ) and we reached raffles city. headed to basement 1. passed by the florist, i was about to tease ah bu but he was faster. He asked why i didn't buy flowers for him. My dear, dun think you act cute and 恶人先告状, i will let u off so easily. *evil laugh* Anyway, he brought me to the front of the place. from the decoration i immediately concluded - oh my goodness! japanese food! then i remembered my mom mentioning about this new place at raffles city that is like marche style but serves japanese food. i was totally estatic! ^_^ the place is called shokudo and the queue is insane. LOL. seriously insane i.e. WAY longer than the queue for the donut factory at the same place. oh well, we joined the queue anyway.
JUST when it got to our turn, they had full house and we had to wait alittle for seats. then when there was, they told us to go in. See, the thing is, i detest this part of the system. The place does a headcount for the people who go in, but they do NOT help you find seats. You have to find your own. So let's say if i decide go in with 2 people and i choose to reserve a 4 seat area, i'd be a inconsiderate moron who deprives 2 other people of their seats. And that exactly what happened. Had a tough time finding seats and i got more and more impatient and peeved already. Please man. If there are no avaiable seats, then dun freaking let people in! or do something about the system, is really wth! in the end, one of the staff found seats for us. thankfully.

First up, sashimi! (reasonably priced, NICE!!!! salmon was oh-yum! the tako was o.O surprisingly fresh & crunchy. didn't like the maguro. megajiki was nice too.)

Omu rice with hamburg. The rice not nice (too nua for our liking), hamburg too dry but taste wise is not bad, gt the smoky taste. (yes, yes i know it has holes. cos we took a few bites happily and forgot to take picture before eating. you see, we waited freaking long for this one. Becos the guy cooking the omu rice has attitude problem. Si Ah Tiong. :X He really got an attitude. dunno what is wrong with him. He refuses to serve the LONG QUEUE of customers at his station by NOT taking their orders and NOT giving them their food and just continue frying sunny-side ups in the manner as though he's preparing some gourmet dish. Everyone who goes to his station to order gets very pissed. Even those who are working together with him also gets the same treatment i.e. he keeps asking the guy at the grill (who is busy grilling all the meats,chicken, hamburgs, sausage) whether the chicken for his dishes are ready. But guess what? Those meats that he had requested hor, the guy at the grill already FINISHED grilling LONG AGO and placed it at the table behind him. The crazy guy at the omu rice station just REFUSES to take it and serve his customers. I dunno how they tolerate him man.

Waffles with ice cream! Heh heh. Some clever boy read my mind and bought for me the exact flavour of ice cream i had in mind =p Oh, tastewise, you'd be better off eating the one at gelare's on tuesdays. *wink*
Overall, the food is generally okay/not bad and there's ALOT of variety. We'll definitely visit again cos ah bu wants to eat his mushroom hamburger, i want to eat my garlic fried rice and grilled salmon belly ;x Price wise....gah. i feel it's abit on the chor side. Eat abit nia but expensive ._. Thank you ah bu for pampering me! :O
